First things first, What is acne, or acne prone skin?
Acne, one of the most familiar word we all are used to.. Its a common skin condition that occurs when hair follicles become clogged with oil and dead skin cells.
It typically happens in the form of pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, or sometimes cysts on the face, neck, chest, back, and shoulders.
it is so frustrating and confusing, and can affect individuals of all ages, from teenagers to adults. (millions and the millions)
You know, some of the factors that contribute to the development of acne?
Excess Oil Production🛢️:
Sebaceous glands produce sebum to lubricate skin. Excess sebum can clog pores, leading to acne.
Dead Skin Cells 💀:
Shedding skin cells can mix with sebum, clogging hair follicles and forming blackheads and whiteheads.
Bacteria 🦠:
Propionibacterium acnes thrives in clogged pores, causing inflammation and various acne lesions.
Hormonal Changes 🔄:
Hormone fluctuations, like during puberty or menstruation, can increase sebum production, worsening acne.
Genetics 👨👩👧👦:
Acne often runs in families, indicating a genetic predisposition. Offspring of acne-prone parents are more likely to have acne.
Stress 🧠:
Stress can trigger hormonal changes and inflammation, exacerbating acne symptoms.
Types of Acne: Acne can manifest in various forms, including:
Comedonal Acne: Characterized by the presence of comedones (blackheads and whiteheads) without significant inflammation.
Inflammatory Acne: Inflammatory acne involves red, swollen, and often painful lesions, including papules, pustules, and nodules.
Cystic Acne: The most severe form of acne, cystic acne involves deep, painful cysts that can lead to scarring if not properly treated.
